How to choose nozzle caliber?

The nozzle has a caliber of φ1.0mm, φ1.5mm, φ2.0mm, φ2.5mm, φ3.0mm, etc.

The nozzle caliber is often used in φ1.5mm and φ2mm.

1. For thin plate below 3mm,using φ1.5mm, 

the cutting surface will be thinner;using φ2mm, the cutting surface will be thicker,

 and the corners will be easily melted.

2.Thick plates above 3mm,φ2mm is better choice : 

Due to the high cutting power, heat dissipation time is longer, and cutting time also 

increases. With φ1.5mm, the gas has a small diffusion area, so it is not stable when used

but it is basically usable. With φ2mm, the gas diffusion area is large and 

the gas flow rate is slow, so it is stable when cutting.

3.The calier φ2.5mm can only be used for thick plate cutting of 10mm or more. In summary, 

the size of the nozzle aperture has a great impact on the cutting quality and the quality of the 

perforation. At present, laser cutting  mostly uses nozzles of φ1.5 mm and φ2 mm.

Therefore, the nozzle calier bigger , the protection to the focusing mirror is worse, because the spark splash of the melt during cutting has a high probability of being lifted up, so that the life of the lens is shorter.

The center of the nozzle and the concentricity of the laser are one of the important factors that contribute to the quality of the cut. Especially when the workpiece is thicker, the effect is greater. Therefore, the center of the nozzle must be adjusted to the concentricity of the laser to obtain a better cutting profile.

Note: When the nozzle is deformed or there is melting on the nozzle, its influence on the cutting quality is the same as described above. Therefore, the nozzle should be placed carefully and should not be damaged to avoid deformation; the melt stain on the nozzle should be cleaned up in time.  The quality of the nozzles is highly accurate when manufactured and requires the correct method of installation. If the conditions are changed during cutting due to poor nozzle quality, the nozzle should be replaced in time.
